National Energy Conservation Day celebration at Amby Valley
Shri L.K. Sahoo

Realizing that energy intensity of the Indian manufacturing sector is high and it requires priority attention to improve energy efficiency, the Indian Ministry of Power started ‘National Energy Conservation Awards’ to industrial units who have taken special efforts to reduce their energy intensities while maintaining the same production levels. The Awards were given for the first time on December 14, 1991 and since then the day has been declared as the National Energy Conservation Day.

The National Energy Conservation Day was celebrated with great zeal and enthusiasm on 14th December 2003 at Amby Valley. The event was organized by Sahara Environment Excellence Destination. The objective of the event was to increase the awareness of Kartavyayogis on the need for energy conservation.

Shri OP Dixit, Hon’ble Deputy Director, Amby Valley addressed the gathering on importance of energy conservation. It was stressed that one unit of energy saved is equivalent to two units of energy produced. An information booklet titled “Energy & Water Conservation” was launched and distributed to all the participating Kartavyayogis.

During the event, a team consisting of Shri Jay Kumar, Shri Darshak Mehta and Shri Sanjeev Gowsane from Mitcon Consultancy Services Ltd delivered a presentation on energy conservation with special emphasis on residential and commercial buildings. The Energy Conservation Act 2001 and Electricity Bill 2003 were explained with importance of renewal energy. It was also highlighted how energy savings is related to reduction of harmful green house gas emission.

In order to ensure participation of Kartavyayogis in energy conservation, a drawing competition was also organized. The drawing competition included two categories—Category I included drawings/posters suggestions on energy conservation for Technicians/Electricians/Plumber (Lower level), while Category II was a knowledge test on Energy Conservation Act and best suggestions with respect to Amby Valley for Field Engineers/Supervisors (Middle Level). Prizes were distributed by Shri O P Dixit to the winners of the competition after the discussions on the occassion.
