EMS ISO: 14001 Recertification and World Environment Day at Amby Valley

TREE PLANTATION AT AMBY VALLEY
On June 5, 1998 Amby Valley had set a world record by planting 125,256 trees in 6 hours 35 minutes with the help of 1400 volunteers. Since then every year the World Environment Day celebration starts with a tree plantation programme with the belief that `Plant a Tree Today For a Better Tomorrow’.

Maintaining the tradition, the World Environment Day celebration on June 5, 2003 at Amby Valley also started with the ‘Tree Plantation.’ The plantation programme was inaugurated by Shri O P Dixit, Hon’ble Deputy Director, SICCL signifying Sahara India Pariwar’s commitment towards preservation, protection and enhancement of the environment. Almost all the Kartavyayogis of Sahara India Pariwar along with Bal Gram students and other volunteers participated in this programme.

TRAINING PROGRAMME IN ENVIRONMENTAL ISSUE
After conclusion of the tree plantation programme on the occasion of World Environment Day, a Training Programme targeted at the senior management of Amby Valley was organized by Sahara Environment Excellence Destination at Amby Valley. The objective of the training program was to address environmental, health and safety issues and its importance for effective implementation of management systems. RINA (Registro Italiano Navale) delivered a lecture on the occasion.



SAHARA ENVIRONMENT AWARD CEREMONY
An environment award ceremony was organized by Sahara India Pariwar at Taj Hotel, Mumbai in the evening on June 5, 2003 to celebrate the World Environment Day. During the event a documentary titled “Shores of Silence: Whale Sharks in India by Shri Mike Pandey was shown to the participants. After brief deliberation on environment issues, environment awards were given to Shri Mike Pandey, Shri Nana Chudasama and Shri Pramod Navalkar for their outstanding work in the field of environment protection.

AMBY VALLEY RECERTIFIED FOR EMS ISO: 14001
The Environment Management System ISO 14001 was established in 1999 and was certified for the first time in February 2000 as a part of Sahara India Pariwar’s commitment towards protection of the environment with a broad aim to provide the green, clean and healthy environment to the internal as well as external customers. The 3-year journey resulted in various tangible and intangible benefits in terms of environment and economy.

In 2003, Amby Valley, Sahara Lake City was recertified for EMS ISO–14001 by RINA–Certifying Body. The current certificate would be valid for three years. This achievement resulted with the handover of the recertification by Shri K T Ramakrishna, MD, RINA to Hon’ble Shri O. P. Dixit– Dy. Director Worker, SICCL on 5th June 2003 at Amby Valley. The effort was appreciated by the management. Following success in EMS ISO–14001, new initiatives have been undertaken on energy conservation, resource recycling, global warming and sustainable development.
