We launched our first issue of SEED at the National Conference on Green and Sound Investment Destination – India, organized by Confederation of Indian Industries (CII) and sponsored by Sahara India Pariwar at Mumbai on August 19th-20th, 2002. We had the opportunity of listening and going through various sessions that highlighted the role and focus on Environment issues and Sustainable Development concepts that shall challenge the minds of Governments, Corporates and Society at large; Sahara India Pariwar continues to commit itself to the path of Sustainable Development across all the activities in its businesses.

Post World Environment Day celebrations that spanned most of the functional units of Sahara India Pariwar including the launch of initiatives to nurture and foster water and energy conservation, we have also taken up energy audit projects across the offices of our Pariwar at Noida, Lucknow, Kolkata and Mumbai. Further, newer initiatives are on the anvil to be launched across the Housing Division of our Pariwar in the areas of Water Conservation and Water Harvesting furthering the national cause for the same.

In all these initiatives we are closely associated with renowned professionals from, TERI, CII – Environment Management Division, SENES Consultants to name a few and many more that we would like to partner with, in our journey towards Sustainable Development.

This issue focuses on the “Sahara Sustainability Management Model” developed in-house and presented at the GRI, South Asia Conference held at Kuala Lumpur. Our efforts in this direction were widely appreciated by all present and we are getting enquiries to share our experiences with many others.

The continuation article on energy from the previous issue propounds the cause for conserving energy and becoming productive and effective at lesser levels of energy consumption. This would be one of the many paths that all sustainable corporations worldwide would have to take.
