AIR SAHARA TAKES A FLYING START
Air Sahara has decided to take the systems approach
route to achieve continual improvement. They have now decided to go in
for ‘Integrated management System’ consisting of Quality Management
System (ISO 9001:2000), Environment Management System (ISO 14001) and
Social Accountability (SA 8000). This is a gigantic task and it would be
for the first time that such an approach is being adopted by any
airlines in the world. The above integration will take place under the
larger umbrella of ISO 9001.
Sahara Quality Competency Centre, Noida, is handling this assignment of
facilitating the entire process. Active participation of the senior
management and the core team has commenced by way of appointing Shri
Damodaran, Vice-President (Sales and Marketing) as Management
Representative (MR) and Capt. Lamba as Chief Coordinator. Management
Review Team and Core Team have been formed to review the overall process
and designing of the systems.

PARTICIPATION OF SAHARA INDIA IN CII – CONSTRUCTION
SUMMIT
How
does the system implementation make sense to customers? Can systems
implementation protect the varied interests of stakeholders? This was a
topic of discussion on which a presentation ‘Journey of Ram Bharose,
Acquiring a Home’ was made by Shri S. Kumar, G.M., HR and Quality, during
CII Construction Summit in Delhi. Since construction industry has a long
way to go for imbibing the business practices called as professionalism,
system implementation can be a good platform to start with. Customers’
feedback and its utilisation in product development was amply emphasised
in this presentation. During the summit Minister of Transport stated that
in the coming five year plan, Rs. 1,25,000 crores will be invested in
energy sector and an amount of Rs. 90,000 crores will be spent by National
Highway Authority of India on development of express highways. Due to
these two infrastructural investments, Indian economy will receive a major
boost. And it’s a long awaited need of industry.

CERTIFICATION LAUNCH PROGRAMME – GORAKHPUR
Quality being the essence and the principle guiding
all activities of Sahara India Commercial Corporation Limited (SICCL),
it has been decided that Quality Management System certification shall
be attained for all the townships of Sahara States. In this endeavour
Sahara India Commercial Corporation Limited (SICCL) has launched dual
certification of ISO 9001 Quality Management System (QMS) and
ISO 14001 Environment Management System (EMS) at Sahara States,
Gorakhpur on 25-09-2002.
As of now, Sahara States – Gorakhpur is the only site of Sahara India
Commercial Corporation Limited, which is going for dual certification of
Quality Management System (QMS) and Environment Management System (EMS).

CERTIFICATION OF SAHARA STATES, BHOPAL
Sahara States Bhopal, an exclusive self-sufficient
township has been awarded ISO 9001 Quality Management System
certification, by certification body, RINA in the month of September.
After certification of Sahara States at Lucknow and
Hyderabad to
ISO-9001 (QMS), Bhopal is another feather in the cap of Sahara India
Commercial Corporation Limited (SICCL), complying strictly with the
Quality Management System.
Process of certification for Sahara States at Lucknow, Hyderabad and
Bhopal has been facilitated by Sahara Quality Competency Centre (SQCC)
based at Noida; which itself is an ISO 9001:2000 certified department and
is instrumental in similar activities of other divisions
as well.

LAUNCH OF CORPORATE ENVIRONMENTAL COURSE AT SAMA,
LUCKNOW
Environmental consciousness has taken the front seat
for the past quarter of 20th century. Organizations worldwide are
turning proactive in the quest for sustainable world. In this connection
Sahara Arts and Management Academy (SAMA), Lucknow, has started a
non-credit course on Corporate Environment Management facilitated by
NetPEM (Network for Preventive Environment Management) and Sahara
Environment Excellence Destination at AVSLC. This program will be a part
of the curriculum of the MBA Course.
On this occasion, Shri Surinder Kumar, GM, HR and
Quality, Shri Ashim Gandhi, Senior Manager, Lt. Col. (Retd.) S.P. Mishra,
Coordinator, SAMA, Shri J.S. Bisaria and other senior faculty members
with SAMA students were present. The programme started with Deep
Prajawalan Ceremony followed by welcome on behalf of Lt. Col. (Retd)
D.S. Thapa. Shri Kumar and Shri M. Gandhi gave presentations on
Environment Management System and also spoke of the benefits of
incorporating this course in the regular MBA program. They also
mentioned of many future initiatives like Exchange Programs for faculty
and students with the various foreign universities like DELFT
University, IIIEE Sweden, University of Toronto, etc. Shri Deepak Jain
of NetPEM, Nagpur presented the Trainers kit to Lt. Col. (Retd) S.P.
Mishra.
This course has been designed by NetPEM, Nagpur with
an objective to motivate Indian Industry to incorporate green practices
in their business plan and thereby help them to reap the environmental
and economic benefits.
The program ended
with an interesting brainstorming session with students.
